Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in Sudan, southern Niger, and northern Nigeria '

Africa Weather Hazards

  1. Abnormal dryness is present in parts of central Mali due to poor rainfall since May.

  2. Insufficient rainfall since early May has strengthened abnormal dryness in central South Sudan and parts of Uganda and Southwestern Ethiopia. Conditions in southern areas of South Sudan which have been longest impacted by inadequate moisture have deteriorated to drought.

  3. Over the past week, heavy rainfall has led to flooding in Sennar and South Darfur, Sudan.

  4. Heavy and above-average rainfall has caused flooding in Diffa,
    Zinder, Maradi, and Tahoua, Niger and the Tobe State, Nigeria.
    Next week, light to moderate rainfall is forecast in the region.
