Heavy rainfall brings relief to dry areas in parts of Southern Africa; causes flooding in Central and East Africa

Africa Weather Hazards

  1. Flooding conditions are worsening in the Sudd wetlands in South Sudan, and persisting in parts of Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Burundi, and Tanzania.

  2. Due to a delayed start in the rainy season and insufficient rainfall, abnormally dry conditions are persisting across parts of Angola, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi,
    Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Madagascar.

  3. In Angola, floods are starting in the north and persisting in the south.

  4. Flooding has continued in the central coast areas of Mozambique.

  5. Northern Zambia is experiencing flooding. The KwaZulu-Natal Province in eastern South Africa has also been affected by heavy rainfall, and flooding is likely to occur in northern Madagascar.

  6. Heavy rains have caused the Congo River to rise to its highest level in the past week, resulting in casualties and widespread damage.
