Below-average rainfall dominates over Southern Africa; Rainfall season ends in Eastern Africa.

  1. Inundation remains in the Sudd wetlands of South Sudan.
  2. Heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding in central and southern Mali (particularly affecting low-lying areas of Ségou, Sikasso, and parts of Mopti), southern Niger, northwestern and central Nigeria (around the Komadugu River), central and southern Chad, and northern Cameroon.
  3. Abnormal dryness has intensified in central and eastern Cameroon, leading to drought.
  4. Poorly-distributed rainfall since late September has resulted in abnormal dryness and drought across southeastern Ethiopia and central and southern Somalia. Eastern Angola, northeastern Namibia, southwestern Zambia, northern Botswana, southern Zimbabwe, and eastern Madagascar face abnormal dryness.
  5. Abnormally-hot conditions are forecasted in eastern Southern Africa and Madagascar as well aboveaverage maximum temperatures are expected to persist for three or more consecutive days.
  6. Localized heavy rainfall may result in isolated flash floods in the DRC and northern Zambia. Since November, heavy rain has caused floods in northeastern DRC and northern Tanzania and landslides in eastern Uganda.
  7. Tropical Cyclone CHIDO has led to flooding in northern Mozambique, southern Malawi, and northwestern coastal areas of Madagascar. Flooding risk is high in eastern South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
