ABIDJAN, 17 March (IRIN) - The government
of the United States has contributed US $9.27 million to the Geneva-based
International Commitee of the Red Cross to support its field operations
for the current year, the US government announced on Friday. This new funding
hasbrought to over $29 million the amount that the administration of US
President George Bush has contributed to the ICRC for emergency field operations
in 2003. According to a news release from the State Department, the US
provided more than $125 million in 2002.
