2023 Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO)
Requirements for the 2023 GHO have increased to $54.4 billion to assist 242 million of the 350 million people in need. Reported GHO funding as of end of April 2023 totalled $7.4 billion or 13.7 per cent of requirements. This is more than the amount of GHO funding reported at the end of April 2022 ($5.8 billion), but similar to the coverage of requirements (12.6 per cent). Details on funding by plan are available here. Total reported humanitarian funding for 2023 reached $12.6 billion at the end of April.
NEW The Mozambique Response Plan for Cyclone Freddy, Floods & Cholera (March - September 2023) was launched at the end of March. The plan will assist more than a million people across eight provinces of Mozambique – Gaza,
Inhambane, Manica, Maputo, Niassa, Sofala, Tete and Zambezia – that bore the brunt of the compounding effect of cholera, floods and cyclone Freddy. The storm generated significant damage to infrastructure, including houses, schools, and health facilities. Water systems, sanitation facilities as well as water supply infrastructures and latrines in communities and institutions were flooded and damaged. Water sources were contaminated. These conditions accelerated a cholera outbreak that had been growing since September 2022. The plan requires $138 million to assist 815,000 people.
