Global Emergency Overview Weekly Picks, 31 October 2017

Bangladesh

607,000 newly arrived Rohingya in Cox's Bazar are in need of WASH assistance, which is impeded by physical access at new sites, overburdened existing facilities and the extremely limited safe water and sanitation facilities at reception areas close to the border.

There is a gap in response targeting for some 636,000 people. Protection is another major concern with 597,000 people requiring assistance including psycho-social support, child protection, and family tracing and reunification.

Syria

With more than 250,000 people displaced from Deir-ez-Zor in October, IDP needs are rising in north-east Syria. Displacement camps in al-Hasakeh governorate are overcrowded and IDPs lack access to food, WASH, and healthcare.

Deaths from malnutrition and other preventable diseases were reported in Sidd camp in the south of al-Hasakeh, with children the most affected. Restrictions are imposed on those trying to leave the camp.
