This paper identifies opportunities to strengthen the media as an element of peacebuilding and offers a guide for understanding how media-related interventions can be used in a variety of conflict conditions. For this purpose, it contains the following main chapters:
- Converging realities: Gender, conflict, and peacebuilding
- The changing international context since 1998
- Gender, human rights and peacebuilding
- Key issues for transformative approaches
The product of a literature review of gender issues in the context of conflict and post-conflict reconstruction, the paper was prepared as background material for an international workshop on gender equity and peacebuilding jointly convened by the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
