Gender-Based Violence: Emerging Issues in Programs Serving Displaced Populations

Attachments

This report provides a compendium of key lessons learned from work with gender based violence (GBV) programs in populations affected by armed conflict. In addition to offering recommended resource materials and a sample interagency procedure manual, its three main parts discuss:

Emerging Standards: Describes the evolution of GBV programs serving populations affected by armed conflict and the most common challenges to GBV prevention and response efforts in the field and at organizational policymaking levels.

Putting It Together: Analyses the seven most common problem areas for GBV programs in the field, with each chapter describing an issue, analyses the reasons behind the difficulties, and offers suggestions for resolving these problem areas in programming.

Varied Programs, Shared Challenges: Contains summaries of seven GBV programs visited in 2001-2002.

The book aims to be of use by staff and volunteers working to protect displaced populations - from high level policymakers to field-based workers, in order to add to the collective knowledge on gender based violence as well as motivate humanitarian aid organisations to strengthen collaborative efforts.
