The Challenge
Currently, the global community faces many issues such as climate change, population growth, urbanization, and water shortages. At the same time, there have been global economic shifts, new actors engaged in humanitarian action, and tremendous improvements in technology. Given these challenges and opportunities, we need to improve how we respond to disasters and conflicts.
The World Humanitarian Summit (WHS), to be held in 2016, will bring people and groups together to address future humanitarian challenges related to natural hazards and conflicts. The Eastern and Southern African Regional Consultation for the WHS will take place late October 2014.
On behalf of the WHS Secretariat, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) invites all interested individuals to submit entries to its Short Film Contest, which aims to bring more attention to the WHS. Highlighting humanitarian action, the film should be no more than four minutes and must concentrate on one or more of the four themes of the Summit, in the context of Eastern and Southern Africa:
Humanitarian Effectiveness
Reducing vulnerability and managing risk
Transformation through innovation
Serving the needs of people in conflict
Films should focus on solutions as opposed to challenges. What is your vision to reshape humanitarian action?
