Synopsis
FAO’s approach to durable solutions to displacement situates agriculture, food security and nutrition at the heart of recovery and resilience building. Recognizing that agriculture is a key livelihoods sector for the displaced, FAO works to strengthen and restore agrifood systems so that people can produce nutritious food, earn an income and recover from crisis. Drawing on its wide ranging expertise (spanning climate resilience, crops, energy-smart agrifood systems, fisheries, forestry, land tenure, livestock and natural resource management), FAO bridges humanitarian, development and peace efforts. The approach supports displaced and host communities to regain productive assets, secure land rights, improve nutrition, adapt to climate risks and meaningfully contribute to local economies through inclusive value chains and market access. Guided by data, partnerships and evidence, FAO’s integrated approach leverages agriculture as a driver of food security, resilience and lasting solutions to displacement.
