To increase the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society (IFRC) to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and the impact of disasters through the timely and adequate financial support for disaster response from the DREF.
Programme(s) summary:
The amount allocated by the DREF at 31 December 2010 was 29 per cent higher than in 2009. The increase in the amount allocated is attributable to the increase in grants to small-scale disasters which was 40% higher than in 2009. The amount of loans to emergency appeals, CHF 5.1 million, remained stable compared with 2009. A total of 30 emergency appeals were launched by the International Federation in 2010 and 24 received start-up funding loans from the DREF (one appeal received two allocations).
