Conflicts in the Middle East, South Asia and beyond: the protection of civilians must remain a priority

Attachments

PARIS, 13 March 2026 – Recent bombardments in the Middle East and rising tensions in South Asia are already having serious consequences for civilian populations. Thousands of families are facing displacement, damage to essential infrastructure, and disruptions to the basic services they rely on, including water, health care and education.

Muslim Hands France is closely monitoring developments through its counterparts and partners working in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen and Turkey, and remains mobilised to support communities affected by the crisis. The organisation also operates in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where recent tensions are adding further pressure to contexts already affected by instability, economic vulnerability and recurrent climate-related shocks.

In each context, Muslim Hands France works alongside its counterparts and partners to support humanitarian assistance as close as possible to affected communities. Needs are assessed on the ground and responses are adapted as situations evolve in order to help ensure access to food assistance, safe drinking water, health services and protection support.

This sustained engagement is reflected in ongoing operations across several crisis-affected contexts. In Afghanistan, Muslim Hands teams were mobilised in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake. In Pakistan and Sri Lanka, emergency assistance was deployed following major floods. In Palestine, particularly in Gaza, support continues in response to the scale of humanitarian needs. In Yemen, Somalia and Sudan, Muslim Hands programmes are maintained despite highly complex operating environments.

In 2025, Muslim Hands France supported more than 450,000 people directly affected by humanitarian crises with life-saving assistance.

Under international humanitarian law, civilian infrastructure — including hospitals, schools, water systems and electricity networks — must be protected and must not be targeted. In a context of rising tensions, Muslim Hands France reaffirms its commitment to the humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence.

Muslim Hands France remains committed to supporting affected communities and recalls that under international humanitarian law, the protection of civilians is both a legal obligation and a fundamental right.
