The Code of Conduct for the International
Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief assists
in the monitoring of standards of relief delivery and seeks to encourage
other agencies to set similar standards.
The Code goes against the assumption that disaster relief is essentially charitable work, sets universal basic standards to govern the way the relief community should work in disaster assistance and describes the relationships agencies working in disasters should seek with donor governments, host governments and the UN system.
The Code is applicable to all NGOs, national or international, small or large.
