Humanitarian crises have a disproportionate impact on women and girls. As natural disasters and conflict deepen existing gender inequalities and heighten vulnerabilities, women and girls are less likely to be in school, receive an income or see a doctor.

And yet, women and girls around the world are beating these odds. They are taking on roles of advocates, first responders and leaders. On International Women’s Day, meet six women who are using their skills, knowledge and determination to create positive change in their families and communities.
