Private sector to take a larger role in fighting malaria in endemic countries

22 January 2012, Geneva, SWITZERLAND: - RBM partners have just released new recommendations for harnessing knowledge and resources from the private sector to meet global malaria targets. The new document is the outcome of an RBM workshop on Indoor Residual Spraying, conducted jointly by RBM's Vector Control Working Group and the Global Business Coalition in Johannesburg, in October, 2011. At the meeting private companies were acknowledged as major contributors to malaria control efforts in endemic countries. Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) is a highly effective vector control intervention which protected more than than 78 million people Africa-wide in 2010.
