Every day, 2.3 billion people, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, still cook using traditional methods, with biomass fuel such as wood or charcoal. These practices have major impacts: they contribute to climate change, accelerate forest degradation, and aggravate gender inequality through exposure – especially among women and children – to harmful fumes.
France is seeking to invest €100 million to promote a just and inclusive transition towards universal access to clean and efficient cooking solutions by 2030, and AFD is putting this objective into action.
