2025-26 ACFID Federal Budget Analysis - Facts & Figures

Attachments

ACFID has analysed the 2025-2026 Federal Budget and what it means for Australia’s development and humanitarian assistance.

Our analysis covers humanitarian assistance, NGO programs and civil society funding, climate change, gender equality and social inclusion.

Overall, the international development budget has increased to its highest ever figure, at $5.1b – up by $135m from last year. However, in terms of ODA to GNI and as a percentage of the Federal Budget it is at its lowest level ever.

Most Australians are suprised to learn that aid was just 0.68% of the Federal Budget last year – this has now decreased to 0.65%.

While we recognise the financial pressures the Government faces, the need for aid around the world is greater than ever. We call on major parties to provide a pathway to restore our aid program to 1% of the Federal Budget, making the world a safer place for all..
