At the working meeting with Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee on loans of agricultural development and poverty reduction in the context of climate change, World Bank Country Director Victoria Kwakwa said that the province design specific institutions and policies to cope with the impact of climate change in the short, mid-range and long-term.
At present, due to climate change, Ninh Thuan has been facing severe and continuous droughts over the last 20 years. The province is reducing its rice-growing areas and developing high-value crops requiring less water.
Therefore. Ninh Thuan province needs support from the World Bank to assist the province in developing its canals system, water reservoirs to fight against droughts. The two sides will talk over at the level of technical expertise. The WB will send technical experts to discuss a support cooperation program on climate change adaptation and drought with local authorities.
