Viet Nam - Severe weather (ADINet, NCHMF Vietnam, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 12 May 2025)

  • Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds affected Viet Nam on 9-10 May, causing flooding and landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), as of 12 May, reports that one person died in Lao Cai province (north-western Viet Nam), one is still missing in Binh Duong province, southern Viet Nam due to flooding and landslides, and one has been injured in Quang Tri province, central Viet Nam due to lightning.
  • A total of 600 people have been affected across Lao Cai, Son La, Tuyen Quang, Hoa Binh, Quang Tri and Binh Duong provinces, at least 150 houses have been affected, and one is totally damaged.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall is forecast over central Viet Nam, and moderate rainfall is expected over the southern part of the country.
