Heavy rainfall has been affecting northern Viet Nam, mainly Bac Kan and Lai Chau provinces, since 16 May, triggering multiple landslides and flash floods that have resulted in casualties, damage, including power outages, loss of livestock, and farmland.
As at 19 May, media reports indicate at least nine fatalities, one person missing, and four injured. Multiple landslides have further damaged several houses and crops, and killed 90 cows.
Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall, with locally heavy to very heavy downpours and thunderstorms, is forecast across Viet Nam, including the already affected provinces.
