An Giang, May 27 (VNA) - The European Commission's Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) has recently granted gifts, valued at 30,000 USD, to the flood-prone districts of Tri Ton, Tinh Bien, Chau Phu and Tan Chau in the Mekong delta province of An Giang.

The gifts included 300 commodity coupons, worth 1.1 million VND each, for 300 households in Tri Ton and Tinh Bien districts and a sum of money for purchasing boats and building public water closets, kindergartens and safe water supply systems in Chau Phu and Tan Chau districts.

Apart from ECHO's assistance, estimated to benefit around 1,000 households in the locality, An Giang province had earlier received 27,000 USD from the Swiss Red Cross to build a charitable house. Covering 150 sq. metres in the medical centre of Tinh Bien district, the house started operation on Tuesday.

Last year, the Swiss Red Cross granted 420,000 USD for the building of 700 houses on higher ground above flood levels in Tinh Bien district, and early this year, it paid 15,000 USD for eye surgical operations for poor people in the district.-Enditem
