Viet Nam: Domestic donations for flood victims

Donations nationwide continue to rush into the Mekong delta in an effort to help local people fight the floods.

The Reception Board of Relief Aid at the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee received VND 18.5 billion; US $26,110; DM 4,000 and FrF 7,400 as of October 7

The northern province of Hung Yen has raised VND 600 million; Thai Nguyen, VND 400 million; Bac Lieu, 500 million; Phu Yen, VND 424 million; Tra Vinh, VND 365 million; Kon Tum, VND 280 million; Thua Thien-Hue, VND 1.15 billion; Binh Phuoc, VND 675 million; Da Nang city, VND 1.2 billion and Ba Dinh district in Hanoi, VND 600 million.

Staff of the Communication Engineering Construction Corporation have collected VND 23.5 million; the Vietnam Toyota Company, VND 150 million; the Trade College, VND 24 million; the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, VND 251 million; delegates to the Party Congress of the Air Force's A42 Factory in Dong Nai province, VND 5 million; the Hanoi Open Institute, VND 15.5 million; the Vinh Long Bioted Fertiliser Company, VND 50 million; the Vinh Long Food and Foodstuff Company, 35 tonnes of rice; the Transport and Communication Mechanical Corporation, VND 10 million; the Hanoi Electric Power Company, VND 120 million; staff of the Transport and Communication Hospital, VND 10 million; Vietnamese educational experts working in Angola, US $2,000.

Mr Nguyen Van Chuong, a farmer in Hiep Dong hamlet, Dinh Quan town in Dong Nai province contributed VND 30 million. Two brothers of Nguyen Van Huy in Dong Ngac village, Tu Liem district, Hanoi donated VND 800,000. A little girl, Pham Thi Thu Huong, at 212/82 Kim Ma, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi donated her savings worth VND 200,000. Mr Nguyen Xuan Tan, aged over 70, in Hoa Binh village, Kon Tum province donated VND 200,000 from his old-age pension; Mr Dao Ngoc Hy, a retired colonel in Ngoc Boi hamlet, Long Hung village in Hung Yen province, two tenths of a tael of gold and Mr Phan Ngoc Bich, a revolutionary veteran in Tuy Hoa town, Phu Yen province, VND 2 million.

The six pupils in Nam Ha senior secondary school in Dong Nai province, who got the highest marks in the graduation examination, contributed all the money they received from the prizes, VND 1.8 million for the flood victims.

Can Tho province has received more than VND 13.8 billion as relief aid from organisations and individuals within and outside the province.

Nine doctors of the Military Zone 5, divided into three groups, and goods including three aluminium boats, 1,500 tonnes of instant noodles, 15,000 tonnes of rice and medicines worth VND 170 million, have gone to help local people in the Mekong delta.
