Viet Nam: Death toll of flooding increases to 24

Flooding in South-Central Vietnam has caused 24 deaths so far. 7 people were injured and 2 people are still missing. There is a risk of landslides and flashfloods in provinces Quang Ngai to Phu Yen.

Rainfall and flood situation

- Average rainfall on Nov. 7 in provinces of Thua Thien-Hue to Binh Dinh (mainly coastal areas) and the Central Highlands was 20 to 60mm, with locally exceptions.

- Flood levels on rivers in Quang Nam are decreasing and will continue to lower slowly on the 8th of November. Levels in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen are up.

- In the next 24h, flood levels in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen will continue to increase, and also in again in Quang Ngai.

- Risk of landslides and flashfloods in provinces Quang Ngai to Phu Yen

Damage

According to CCFSC flash report 5th November:

- Death: 24 (Quang Ngai 1; Khanh Hoa 7; Phu Yen 5; Ninh Tuan 5; Binh Dinh 4; Dak Lak 2)

- Missing: 7

- Injured: 2

- Houses collapsed: 1,872 (Phu Yen: 7; Khanh Hoa: 161; Ninh Thuan 1,701, Binh Dinh 3)

- Rice paddies flooded: 18,889ha

- Secondary crops flooded: 7,380ha

- Boats sunk: 38

- Continued search and rescue and relief operations in line with CCFSC directive No.33/C=D0-TW

- NCHMF is closely monitoring the weather and flood conditions and communicating on a very regular basis to the CCFSC and through their website and other means
