Update on the Emergency Response Operations of Vietnam Red Cross on the drought and saline intrusion in the Southern Central, Central Highlands and Mekong River Delta

March 9th, 2016, the VNRC NHQs and the National Steering Committee o­n the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control issued the letter No. 01/BCĐTWPCTT-TƯHCTĐ o­n the Cooperation Agreement and the Campaign to response o­n the drought and saline intrusion.

  • March 18th, 2016, VNRC President official launched the in-country Appeal No. 47/LKG-TƯHCTĐ sending to all related provincial chapters, Red Cross staff, members, youth and volunteers.

  • In March and April, VNRC NHQs has organized a number of Assessment Teams to the affected provinces, in order to obtain the relevant information from the field, as well as participated in different meetings/events organized by MARD for information sharing and updating.

  • In order to raise funds to assist the people affected by the drought and saline intrusion, VNRC NHQs in cooperation with the National Humanitarian Portal 1400, Ministry of Information and Communication launched the SMS Campaign, started from April 7th to June 5th, 2016. o­n April 8th, 2016, in Ho Chi Minh city, VNRC NHQs in cooperations with the Tuoi Tre newspaper, HoChiMinh Television organized a liveshow with the theme "Water for the drought and saline intrusion regions".

  • Activate the National Disaster Response Team of Vietnam Red Cross for the need assessment, emergency relief operations, proposals writing,....

  • Refer to the funding:

  • VNRC NHQs released an assistance amount of VND 5,317,000,000 to assist 15,097 households in 14 provinces. The funding was used for providing fresh water, plastic water containers/cans and the Water Purification Aquatab tablets.

  • Provincial Red Cross chapters of Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu,Bến Tre, Điện Biên, Hà Nam, Hà Tĩnh, Hưng Yên, Kon Tum, Quảng Ninh, Thanh Hóa, Vĩnh Long, TP. Hà Nội, TP. Hồ Chí Minh… and some enterprises and companies responding to the Appeal, such as Duc Giang Company supported 500 millions VND, Son Ha Company with 100 water containers with 150 millions VND, Coca-Cola Vietnam donated 2,800 water pax with the value of 107 millions VND,....

  • International Assistance are from the DREF/IFRC, USAID, UNDP, Swiss Red Cross, German Red Cross....

  • As of April 24th, 2016, VNRC NHQs mobilized VND 24,957,000,000, of which VND 11,279,000,000 from in-country resources and international assistance of 13,677,000,000 VND
