Rehabilitation assistance for flood-affected people

Since August 2012, Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department of the European Commission (ECHO) has funded more than VND 17.7 trillion for the project "Support for the rehabilitation of people affected by floods in the Mekong Delta". The project is implemented in 12 communes in three districts of An Giang province and 15 communes in four districts of Dong Thap province.

The Red Cross of Vietnam has just sum up the project. Accordingly, after the first year of implementation, the project has built permanent houses for 200 households, provided 2,000 water filters and plastic water containers, 1,000 stainless steel water tanks with capacity of 200-liter, installed water filtration systems for 20 schools, repaired restroom and hand wash system for 9 schools in Dong Thap and An Giang provinces. In addition, over 3,000 households have access to information and knowledge on the prevention of natural disasters, clean water and sanitation, health care. 2,440 students participated in training activities on clean water, protection environmental sanitation, disease prevention and health care.
