After 3 years of implementation, the Project "Community Based Disaster Risk Management in Urban and Rural Settings in Quang Binh" has provided knowledge on disaster prevention and response fore about 19,200 people; provide training courses for people in the beneficiary communes on disaster response training pre-to post-disaster.
This information was shared at the workshop on pilots of the "Community-Based Disaster Risk Management in Urban and Rural Settings in Quang Binh" Project organized by the Vietnam Red Cross and the German Red Cross.
The workshop aimed to share good initiative, creativity, key achievements of the project as well as plans to maintain and develop the activities after the project go to the end.
The project "Disaster Risk Management in rural and urban areas in Urban and Rural Settings in Quang Binh" has been implemented from June 2015 to March 2018 with a total cost of 745,000 euros from the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation through the German Red Cross to the Vietnam Red Cross.
The project’s beneficiaries are people, pupils in Bao Ninh commune, (Phu Hai, Dong Hoi city); Mai Hoa and Thuan Hoa communes (Tuyen Hoa district)..
In addition to activities to provide knowledge and skills for disaster response, the project also implemented activities to support livelihoods with equipment, construct a number of disaster response structures inlocalities and primary schools in the project area, build 25 flood shelters for 25 households in flooding areas in Thuan Hoa commune, constructa rescue route for Mai Hoa Commune.
Particularly, in beneficiary localities, in addition to raising awareness for local Red Cross staff, the project also equips Mai Hoa and Thuan Hoa communes with early warning loudspeakers,constructs 9 flood shelters in Thuan Hoa commune.
