Mekong river flood warning and forecasting 21 Aug 2002

During the last 48 hours, water levels at almost all stations on Mekong River rose, except, from Chiang Saen to Chiang Khan receeded. The water level at Vientiane, Nong Khai is higher than flood stage; at Paksane, Thakhek, Pakse, Stung Treng, Kratie, Kompong Cham, Koh Khel, Tan Chau, Chau Doc is higher than the alarm stage. In coming days, the water levels from Chiang Saen to Nong Khai will receede, from Paksane to Pakse in turn will rise in next 1 - 3 days, then will receede, from Stung Treng to the Delta continue to rise; at Vientiane, Nong Khai, Paksane will be still higher than alarm stage; at Pakse, Tan Chau, Chau Doc will exceede flood stages, at NeakLuong will exceede the alarm stage.
