VGP - The Finish Embassy sign on Tuesday to finance €460,000 for two projects on climate change, which help nurturer climate change capacity for Vietnamese civil social organizations and assist Qu?ng Tr? Province's local communities to adapt to climate change.
Through the first project, conducted by the Center for Sustainable Rural Development for three years from April 2009, social organizations can have an insight in climate change and improve their capacity of meeting demands of the vulnerable communities in Vi?t Nam.
There will be over 200 managerial officials from 50 NGOs and 1,000 farmers directly benefiting from the project's training programs and livelihood activities to adapt to climate change. The NGOs are mainly chosen from the Vi?t Nam Network of Civil Society Organizations and Climate Change (VCSO&CC) and the Climate Change Working Group (CCWG).
The second project will be implemented in Qu?ng Tr? Province's Tri?u Phong and H?i L?ng, the two districts seriously suffer from natural disasters and climate change.
In 2009 and 2010 the project will help increase local manageability of dealing with hazards, conduct researches on land and crop varieties to improve livelihood of locals and insert climate change into local development plans.
The targets of the projects are appropriate with the National Goal Program on coping with climate change ratified by the Government at the end of 2008.
