Sea levels were reported to have been twice as high as last year. This has been put down to climate change.

Tran Van Thoi District's Song Doc Town was heavily affected. Traffic was forced to a standstill by the swirling water.

In Phu Tan and Ngoc Hien districts, 3,000 houses and 8,000ha of ponds for aquaculture were submerged, said Nguyen Long Hoai, director of the provincial Irrigation Division.
