Operational Updates

• In August, WFP implemented school-based distributions only in the states of Delta Amacuro and Zulia. These were the remaining food distributions that started in July and were delayed due to the operational context and priorities in those states. WFP provided food assistance to more than 75,000 people, of whom around 34,600 are early education school children from pre-primary and primary schools, 610 are students with disabilities attending special education schools, 5,400 are school personnel and over 34,500 are household members.

• Within its community-based interventions focused on food assistance and livelihoods support, WFP assisted some 8,800 people (2,200 households) through food distributions in the state of Apure.

• As part of its nutrition-sensitive actions, WFP, together with the National Nutrition Institute (INN) and the National School Feeding Corporation (CNAE) held coordination meetings to build a roadmap for the implementation of nutrition education, screening, and deworming once the school year begins in October.

• To support households of students with disabilities to cover essential needs related to food, health and hygiene, WFP continued to strengthen livelihoods of some 900 caregivers - mostly women - in Delta Amacuro, Falcon and Sucre. WFP provided life skills and technical trainings in chocolate making, bakery, fishing and textile manufacturing.

• WFP, the Civil Protection, and national first responders conducted needs assessments to families affected by floods in 12 communities in the state of Anzoátegui. This exercise will inform potential emergency responses in September.
