The team working in Venezuela has reported
that the operation which has been set up in Valencia is going well. Food
is being provided and tenting is supplied for those who need to relocate
their homes or repair existing housing. The team is also working with the
community on matters such as basic sanitation and health and is seeking
to bring about a sense of order and control.
That there is still danger was graphically
illustrated by the fact that the team photographer was swept away while
crossing a fairly swift-flowing river, along with his two cameras and photographic
record to date. Fortunately he was saved.
Having left adequate supplies of food, the team withdrew to Maracaibo for a few days' rest, returning to Valencia on 4 January.
