The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs (OCHA) has made available emergency cash grants totalling $280,000
and reports contributions of more than $12.6 million towards urgent flood
relief in Venezuela, an OCHA statement said today.
Since the onset of the disasterous floods,
a UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination team (UNDAC) has been helping
the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in the country to plan assistance
efforts. OCHA also sent disaster management experts to help coordinate
emergency relief and plan international assistance during the transition
from relief to rehabilitation, the statement said.
Five OCHA reports on the flood relief efforts in Venezuela are available on the UN humanitarian website, ReliefWeb, at www.reliefweb.int.
