MAP International responds to Venezuelan crisis with medical assistance for 20,000 for 90 days

Brunswick, GA December 22, - Responding to massive flooding which has taken the lives of an estimated 20,000 to 50,000 people, and left tens of thousands homeless, MAP International, a Brunswick, Georgia, based Christian relief and development agency is preparing two (2) New Emergency Health Kits (NEHK) for delivery into flood stricken Venezuela.
Working with partner agencies, MAP will be providing enough medicines and medical supplies for approximately 20,000 people for 90 days. The NEHK medication and medical supply list was created by the World Health Organization, and is based on recommendations for standard treatment regimens by primary health care workers in disaster relief situations. Each kit contains: pain killers, topical and oral antibiotics, trauma care (such as surgical scissors, gauze, gloves, elastic bandaging, etc), as well as water purification tablets and numerous other essential medical supplies. Three (3) additional kits may be sent pending funding.

MAP's Latin American representative, Jim Oehrig, will be conducting a logistical assessment of the situation. MAP is also coordinating with partner agencies in the field for the provision of two (2) additional shipments.

MAP is in critical need of cash donations to its Disaster Relief Fund. Over the past 12-15 months, MAP has responded to an unprecedented frequency and magnitude of relief situations worldwide. Where there are usually 2-3 major relief responses per year, MAP has assisted the victims of Hurricanes Mitch, Georges and Floyd, the earthquakes in Colombia and Turkey, the refugee crisis in Kosovo, volcano activity in Ecuador and presently the flooding in Venezuela.

Forbes Magazine has named MAP one of the nation's top 100 charities, with an efficiency rating of 99%. MAP International, founded in 1954, is a non-profit, Christian global relief and development agency dedicated to providing medicines, medical supplies and community based health training programs to the poor in over 100 countries.
