Highlights
• Almost one month after back-to-back tropical cyclones Judy and Kevin hit Vanuatu, WFP continues to work closely with national authorities on the logistics, emergency telecommunications, and food security response.
• WFP's Pacific Humanitarian Air Service delivered 15 mt of critical relief supplies, including medical supplies and food rations, on behalf of the National Disaster Management Office in Fiji at the request of Vanuatu.
• The Food Security and Agriculture Cluster is close to completing the distribution of dry rations to priority areas affected by the tropical cyclones.
Situation Update
• Two Category 4 tropical cyclones, Judy and Kevin, struck the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on 1 and 3 March, respectively.
• Over 251,000 people were affected by the onslaught of the tropical cyclones, according to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) of Vanuatu.
• One month since the wake of its destruction, 38 evacuation centres are hosting over 900 people in the provinces of Shefa and Tafea. Meanwhile, over 800 people are staying with host households.
• The Government of Vanuatu leads the overall emergency response with support from the Pacific Humanitarian Team, through the response clusters.
• The Government’s key needs for support include shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), food, and telecommunications.
