Vanuatu - Tropical cyclones JUDY (update) and KEVIN (GDACS, JTWC, VMGD, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 06 March 2023)

  • Tropical cyclone KEVIN impact Vanuatu form the north west to the south east since 3 to 4 March - as category 4.
  • Full population of Vanuatu impacted by wind more than 60 km/h .
  • About 251,346 persons impacted by cyclone winds of category 2 to 4 (more than 80% of the population). About 150,000 persons (30,000 household) impacted by cyclone winds of category 3 to 4 than trigger a national response.
  • The island is closed and communication is cut off. There are several humanitarian partners on the ground but with difficulty moving and transmitting information abroad.
  • DG ECHO's Rapid Response Coordinator has been deployed to Fidji/Vanuatu to assess the situation and determine whether DG ECHO's intervention is necessary.
