Situation Overview
A Tropical Low entered Vanuatu's Area of Responsibility on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 12am. After consulting with the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazard Department (VMG0) due to the Tropical Low's earlier formation, the NDMO office took the initiative to activate the Provincial Emergency Operations Centres (PEOC) for Torba, Penama, Sanma, and Malampa first and later shefa.
The tropical low eventually developed into Tropical Cyclone Lola (Category 1) around 6:00 PM on October 22 and strengthened to Category 5 at 1:00 AM on October 24, impacting TORBA, SANMA,
PENAMA, MALAMPA & SHEFA. An ALL CLEAR was given to all the provinces of Vanuatu, on the 26rh of October (6:00AM).
Priority Areas have been initially identified based on the satellite imagery, VMGD cyclone tracking, aerial surveys, and initial damage reports from Provincial sources. Priority areas will be revised following the receipt of detailed assessment data and following initial emergency response activities.
