Vacant land slated for development in Vanuatu's capital Port Vila could soon be transformed into temporary food gardens filled with cabbage, lettuce and tomatoes.
The government hopes the "urban gardens" will prevent a repeat of the food shortages experienced in the wake of Cyclone Pam earlier this year.
Lands Minister Ralph Regenvanu says the plan has been endorsed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation and there is funding to support it.
