Abstract
The Asia-Pacific Disaster Report 2024 warns of escalating climate and disaster risks for the Pacific region, with Small Island Developing States (SIDS) facing the most severe threats under 1.5°C and 2°C warming scenarios. Increased cyclones, droughts, and rising sea levels endanger both ecosystems and densely populated areas like Fiji, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea. Approximately 90% of the Pacific population is exposed to multiple hazards, with key sectors such as agriculture and energy particularly vulnerable. The report calls for urgent action through enhanced early warning systems, increased regional cooperation, and investment in resilient infrastructure to safeguard lives, biodiversity, and economic stability, underscoring the need for innovative adaptation to protect the Pacific’s future.
