There are indications of extensive damage in Vanuatu's outer islands following tropical cyclone Dani.

Danielle Guille reports that communications are down in many areas:

In north west Santo, which was in the eye of Cyclone Dani three days ago, a villager contacted by radio, reported yesterday on Radio Vanuatu that the church and most houses had been destroyed.

There is also a lot of damages on crops such as taro and manioc on which people rely for food. All villages contacted from the north and central provinces reported similar damages. Yesterday authorities of several islands requested urgently for tarpaulins but food may also be lacking in a few weeks. Yesterday, an aerial reconnaissance by helicopter was conducted from Port Vila as terrestrial communications are cut, but lots of villages without radio are still out of reach.
