Situation Overview

At 5:00pm local time today, Tropical Cyclone Donna (Category 5) was located 275 KM west southwest of Malekula and 330 KM west of Vila. The Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) advises people, that Red Alert is active for SANMA and MALAMPA, while Yellow alert for SHEFA province and Blue Alert is current for TAFEA province. The National Disaster Management Office continues to monitor the situation closely and is gathering information on those areas already affected.

Preliminary Impact*

In Torba there are reported 1,200 people in evacuation centres. In Sanma there are reported 1,000 people in evacuation centres. In Shefa the numbers are yet to be reported, with several evacuation centres currently operational. Shefa evacuations are largely due to flooding. Disaggregated data is not currently available.
