Dengue Outbreak in Vanuatu- Situational Report 03 (24 Apr 2019)

Overview

  • Between January 1st and April 16th 2019, there have been a total of 216 suspected dengue cases reported including 18 confirmed cases.

  • Between 8th and 16th April, 42 suspected dengue cases reported in Port Vila and Luganville and 4 cases were confirmed positive for dengue in Luganville only.

  • 1 confirmed case of DENV-2 in Port Vila was an imported case from a traveller coming from the Solomon Islands in January 2019.

  • 1 confirmed case serotype unknown with travel history to New Caledonia was detected in Luganville on the 15th of April 2019.

  • 13 confirmed cases were locally acquired in Luganville, Santo island.

  • Last confirmed case in Port Vila was on April 1st.

  • The DENV-2 serotype has been circulating in Vanuatu for the last 2 years.
