The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) has launched a consolidated appeal to support urgent earthquake recovery efforts in Vanuatu.
On the 17th December 2024, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Vanuatu, followed by several aftershocks.
As of 18th December 2024, the earthquake has affected an estimated 80,000 people, claimed over 14 lives and left 200 injured. According to the Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office, the numbers are expected to increase.
Damage to infrastructure has been widespread, with reports of power outages across the entire country.
The Government of Vanuatu has declared a state of emergency, with risks of cyclones and landslides potentially impacting recovery efforts.
“We know how deep the ties in our communities run back to Vanuatu, and how desperately Australians want to help. Donating cash is the fastest and most flexible way to ensure assistance reaches those who need it,” said Naomi Brooks, ACFID’s Humanitarian Lead.
“ACFID’s members and local partners are on the ground responding with life-saving assistance, such as food, shelter, infrastructure, and health. Your donation will help organisations carry out this crucial work and assist the people of Vanuatu in rebuilding,” said Ms Brooks.
All ACFID member appeals listed have been checked and meet ACFID Code of Conduct requirements.
ACFID encourages Australians to donate to organisations via our Consolidated Appeal page which can be found here.
