Uruguay – Severe Weather (INUMET, NOAA, WMO, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 9 April 2016)

  • Heavy rain has been affecting the western and north-western areas of the country over the last few days causing rivers to overflow. Approx. 75 mm of rain in 24 h were recorded in Artigas town over 6-7 April.

  • Local media reported that several families have been evacuated and traffic disruption in the departments of Salto, Paysandu and Artigas as of 8 April early morning UTC.

  • Over the next 24 h moderate to locally heavy rain may affect the northern, north-eastern, western and south-western areas of the country, including the areas already affected.
