- On May 11 (Fri), the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance in kind (sleeping mats, blankets, and plastic rolls) equivalent to about 10 million yen to Uruguay, which sustained damage from torrential rain.
2. In Uruguay, a series of torrential rains caused major overflowing of rivers and flooding in the departments of Soriano, Durazno, and Treinta y Tres, situated in central Uruguay.
As of May 10 local time, 2 people were reported dead, 11,717 affected and infrastructure such as water and electricity supply and roads were damaged.
3. Taking into account the request of the Government of Uruguay, the Government of Japan has decided to extend emergency assistance to the country out of humanitarian considerations for the victims as well as in light of the friendly relations with Uruguay.
