USA: Hygiene items needed for storm survivors headed to Oregon

(PORTLAND, ORE -- Sept. 4, 2005) Northwest Medical Teams is asking Oregonians to contribute personal health supplies to help the 1,000 storm survivors coming to Oregon later this week.
Items needed: Soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, razors, deodorant, combs, brushes, washcloths and over-the-counter medications including aspiring/ibuprofen/acetaminophen, cough syrup, and antacids.

Collection location and times: Items should be brought to Northwest Medical Teams warehouse at 14150 SW Milton Ct., Tigard. Labor Day hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hours expand to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday.

"So many people in Oregon have seen the heartbreaking images from the hurricane disaster and wondered what they can do," says Bas Vanderzalm, president of Northwest Medical Teams. "These families have lost everything. We now have a very specific way to show them we care and that we support their recovery."

Northwest Medical Teams is partnering with the American Red Cross to distribute the donated items at shelters where the disaster survivors will stay. In addition, Northwest Medical Teams is working with other groups to organize long-term housing for these families.
