Hurricane Katrina: Malteser International provides 100,000 dollars for US Malteser Associations

Köln/New Orleans. Malteser International, the Order of Malta's worldwide relief service with its headquarters in Cologne/Germany, supports the United States Associations of the Order of Malta. "Our American partners have asked for technical expertise as well as for financial support," states Ingo Radtke, Secretary General of Malteser International. " We have therefore decided to provide 100.000 Dollars out of our proper funds." Radtke adds, that the money is less designated for the emergency relief phase but much more intended to be spent for comprehensive rehabilitation programmes. The United States Malteser Associations are running three homes for elderly people in New Orleans. All residents were safely evacuated just in time. The United States Malteser Associations have about 4,000 members. " The United States Malteser Associations will in any case have the lead management for all relief programmes", emphasizes Radtke.
Malteser International needs the help of the German population and asks for donations to support the United States Malteser Associations. Malteser International confederates with ten partner organizations in the alliance "Aktion Deutschland Hilft" that offers immediate and effective relief service
