ATLANTA – The Alabama Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency today announced the launch of a joint Facebook page to provide information on recovery efforts in the aftermath of the state’s devastating tornadoes, including assistance tips, advice on the registration process and voluntary agencies. Everyone from government officials to recovery specialists to the general public is invited to share information on helping those who have been affected by the storms

“This is great way to connect with our citizens as they share their experiences in this recovery,” said State Coordinating Officer Art Faulkner.

“It’s important that we reach out to the whole community and social networking sites have become a huge part of so many lives,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer Michael Byrne.

Both Facebook and Twitter can be accessed on web-enabled cell phones and smartphones. For anyone needing to register for disaster assistance, is FEMA’s mobile site and allows users to apply for disaster assistance from their phones.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
