Tanzania hosts some 242,525 refugees and asylum-seekers mainly from Burundi and DRC, who live in two camps, while some refugees from the 1972 Burundian population live in villages and three old settlements in Kigoma,
Katavi and Tabora Regions.

In coordination with the Government, UNHCR and partners have been receiving asylum seekers fleeing violent clashes in DRC since March 2023. As of 31 January, a total of 14,496 Congolese new arrivals were received in Tanzania.

UNHCR continues to provide protection and life-saving assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless people, and host community members, as well as pursuing durable solutions.
