Tanzania - Floods, update (media, Meteo Tanzania) (ECHO Daily Flash of 16 April 2024)

  • Over the past two weeks, heavy rainfall has been affecting Tanzania, causing floods and landslides, and resulting in casualties and damage.
  • As of 15 April, according to media reports, at least 58 people died, at least 11 in the Coast Region, ten in the Rukwa Region and ten in the Arusha Region. In addition, 1,529 people have been displaced in eight evacuation centres, 2,278 people have been rescued, 126,831 people have been affected by floods, and at least 30 houses have been destroyed. The most affected areas are the Coast and Morogoro regions.
  • For the next 24 hours, more rainfall is forecast over most of the country.
