Despite recent ceasefire discussions, living conditions continue to be extremely challenging for families living in frontline communities. People live in constant fear and uncertainty, while access to markets, food and healthcare are often unavailable.

The drivers of deprivation and exposure to risks vary depending on which side of the frontline people live. In addition, over 40% of the populations in these areas are over the age of 50, meaning there are not many people of working age left.

In 2024, as part of the country-wide Multi Sector Needs Assessment (MSNA), the World Food Programme (WFP) and REACH employed an innovative data collection approach known as the Area of Knowledge (AoK) method to assess the living conditions of residents in frontline communities and communities under occupation.

Approximately 700 people were interviewed, including those who were either from or had recently been evacuated from these areas. Quasi-quantitative structured interviews as well as qualitative interviews formed the basis of the data collection and were combined with extensive review of secondary data sources.
